Belmont is a hidden jewel in the Richmond Metro area.
The course has hosted the US Open. This municipal boasts a player friendly, but challenging layout. The front nine are best approached from a course management view of play, with the first four holes playing tight, so tee and approach shots need to be in the fairway. The back nine lend toward the "Let it fly" style of play with wide open fairways and varying sized greens.
The biggest drawback of the course overall is that the bunkers are compressed sand, with poor drainage and pebbles. That, coupled with the lack of a driving range force players to make adjustments to their swing for the day, on the fly during play.
The best features is that this course has decent fairways and greens (normally about a 10 stimp) are in great condition for a municipal course. The price is right for residents and visitors at between $21-$34 to walk and a bit more to ride.
